Pro Skills Philly
The ZG program profile series continues on in Pennsylvania, as we were able to catch up Pro Skills Basketball Philadelphia director, Jeff VanGorder! As one of the nation’s premier brands in grassroots basketball, Zero Gravity enjoyed being able to highlight Philadelphia’s branch of Pro Skills Basketball.
Founded in 2009 by two Davidson College alums, Logan Kosmalski and Brendan Winters started Pro Skills Basketball after retiring from their professional basketball careers in Europe. Pro Skills started in North Carolina, and has grown to having over 100 teams across the country in over 10 US cities! Pro Skills Philadelphia is going into its second year in the area, and they’re primed and ready to have a big 2021 season!
In what proved to be a challenging first season for PSB Philly, they were able to make the most of it and have 6 teams in a year that was throwing curveballs every step of the way. Playing in a few of our summer and fall events, we were quickly able to see that Pro Skills is going to be a program that will be a force in the area for years to come.
Jeff and the coaches he has working with him for the Philadelphia teams take a lot of pride in their ability to develop their players. All of the coaches they have on staff are also college coaches, prep coaches, or coaches for some of the public high school teams in the area. These are coaches who have proven track records of making players better than they came.
Looking at the upcoming 2021 season, Pro Skills will have 12-16 teams for the season between 3rd and 12th grade, while also having some of their top 16U and 17U teams compete in the highly anticipated Zero Gravity Exposure League! As the program continues to grow in the area over the next few years, Jeff believes Pro Skills will end up having over 20+ teams per year, and will be known throughout the Mid-Atlantic region for their player development ability that leads to tremendous success at the high school level and beyond.
While the program is still new in the Philadelphia area, Jeff’s proudest moment as director so far has been the performance of his team’s in the local Competitive Edge Sports Fall League that they played in during the past fall season. A lot of the players wanted to finally get the chance to play again after COVID-19 took away a lot of opportunities. With COVID-19 still being a concern for some of the members of the program, a lot of the teams were formed with some players playing up 1-2 years in division. The level of improvement from all of the players, but especially the younger guys playing up, was something that Jeff was extremely proud of.
Zero Gravity is extremely happy to have Pro Skills Philadelphia participating in both our Mid Atlantic spring circuit and our Zero Gravity Exposure League! This is a program that is going to be well-known in the region very quickly. Jeff and his coaches do a fantastic job at giving the players in the program the best platform possible to get better and be seen my college coaches. ZG is excited for what’s coming in 2021!
